The holes in the drainage cap are suited for medium to large-sized seeds and beans. Broccoli seeds (for example) are so small that they can pass through the holes and we suggest combining the Sprout Hugger with a piece of cheesecloth if you are using extremely small-sized seeds.

  • Start Simple: Alfalfa or mung beans are great first seeds to try.
  • Keep It Clean: Begin with clean gear and seeds to avoid any moldy surprises.
  • Stay Hydrated: Give your sprouts a good rinse 2-3 times a day to keep them happy.
  • Patience is Key: Each seed sprouts in its own time. Enjoy the process!
  • Keep 'Em Fresh: Store your sprouts in the fridge to keep them crisp.
  • Experiment Away: Use your sprouts to add a fresh twist to salads, sandwiches, or as a garnish. Get creative!

Sturdy and functional !

Perfect for sprouting seeds!I use it with a 2.5 inch mouth jar as I tried with a few but this dimension proved to be the easiest to put on/off without too much effort and without being too loose (so it doesnt come off too easy). I attached picture measuring the jar. It has good size holes for draining. The legs are super sturdy so they do not collapse while setting upside down on the insert. Super great find for home sprouting! Recommended

Great for testing seed germination

I've had mixed results of starting fruit trees from seed. These Sprout Huggers Silicone Sprouting Lids are a great accessory to help test and develop seeds for planting. I've had success with apple seeds and they have become small seedlings that will hopefully develop to larger trees in the future. I love how durable these sprouting lids are and that you can fit them on almost any glass jar. These lids also clean extremely well when throw in the top rack of your dishwasher.

Amazing stretchy straining lid and water-tight base (that can double as a lid)

When using a jar to sprout lentils, mung beans, radish seeds, et cetera, there are a few methods, including wire mesh lids, cheesecloth held on with a rubber band, and plastic mesh lids. This is the best sprouting solution I have found and it's actually very versatile, so it earns a spot in the cupboard. The straining lid fits on a regular-neck glass canning jar and then sits on top of the base that collects any water draining out from rinsing the sprouts. The straining lid also fits on some regular drinking glasses. If you have glasses made of sturdy, thick glass, these may work on them as well, reducing the specialty items that you need to store in your house (important if you have a small space). The thing that I like the very best is that the solid base can double as a storage lid over a canning jar or glass. So, even if you're not sprouting anything at the time, the sprouting lid set can still be useful in the kitchen.
